5 Reasons To Go To The Maker Faire®

Maker Faire® Detroit, at The Henry Ford, is a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.) inspired extravaganza. The faire gathers 10,000 curious visitors from around the United States. For the 4th year in a row, we are hosting the hackathon during the event on July 28-29 at the Henry Ford Museum from 9AM-5PM. This year, we have invited 50 inner-city Detroit kids that have not had the chance to learn computer science. It’s our way to serve the community in a fun and educational environment. The objective is for them to learn about computer science and game development using Javascript programming language. It’s an all-day event for these kids to explore coding and the innovative activities at the Maker Faire®.

Is a family event where you can discover innovating things about the past, the present, and the future. Not convince? We hope we can persuade you with 5 reasons why you should join us below:

AccelerateKID Hackathon – 50 Detroit kids are competing all day to learn about game development using Javascript at the Lovett Hall Ballroom.

See the latest Gadgets – Companies and inventors often use the faire show off their newest technology. What a great place to get on top of the tech trends!

Geek Out – Maker Faire loves exhibits focused on pop cultures, such as Star Wars, and superheroes. Don’t be surprised if you see RTD2 roaming around!

STEAM Immersion – We love STEAM, and no other place showcases so many things for every aspect of it. It’s the perfect place to get inspired to create.

Support your Community – Local artists and craftsman offer a variety of awesome products you can purchase while supporting those around you.

Kids that learn computer science develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. During the hackathon, kids will develop an innovative app that will be presented to judges for prizes at the end of the day. They will work in teams and attend educational workshops in a fun and educational environment.
